July 18, 2009 - San Diego, CA - USA - San Diego kicks off it's 35th annual Gay Pride Celebration in Hillcrest. A long standing tradition is the parade on Saturday morning with the contingents making their way westward down University Ave to 6th Ave and ending at Balboa Park. San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom walked the parade route shaking hands and well wishers and Cleve Jones who worked side by side with Harvey Milk (SF councilman who was murdered by a fellow councilmember in 1978) was the Grand Marshal of this year's parade. Of course the usual hate mongers were about to which I couldn't help getting into a pissing contest with. Maybe it's something to do with old age and not tolerating hate. Two of my personal favorites had entries in the parade and that was the Royal Court and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Both groups are a bit over the top but they raise alot of money for scholarships for youths and give alot of money to non profit organizations that serve the community with alot of services that help keep people alive.
